Default SEO Advice For Google

I am opening a site that has a new design and domain etc. as another pre-existing site. I have re-written about 50 of the product descriptions optimized tags to my best ability but can't find the time to get them done due to other sites, blogs and other work. I had considered using someplace like elance to seek a bid on knocking out about 85 product descriptions. I can provide the originals and would want them to re-write them using the information I provide.

Question, is this a fair idea to outsource something like this? (about 83 or 85 left)

Is elance a good place to get something like this outsourced?

Many of the products in a section are the same and only differ by size, color or weight so how much of a percent of the rewriting would be considered okay by GG - like 100% different or just different enough to show that it's the kind of the same thing as the page it just spidered except the color or weight for example?

What would be the optimal amount of on-page words? 3 or 4 sentences or 2 double sentence short paragraphs (like this post's opening paragraph split into two sections) I will also have a list of features in a "Features" tab next to the "Description" tab under each product (doing that part myself)?

I want to be unique enough not to get penalized but there's only so much to say about them and I'm not certain on how different or brief I can be in the "Description" box. The "Features" box will have about 5 to 10 lines in list form - describing the individual item's features (adding keywords phrases if needed) while informing customers of important info not mentioned in the default "Description" box. (the Description and Features boxes toggle back and forth with two tabs above the "default" description box that is displayed)

I would appreciate your opinion on these questions and also about outsourcing it as well please?

Thanks for reading this long (boring?) post.

I would say outsourcing is a good idea, but if possible check around your area and see if anyone is doing freelancing locally. It is always best to support your local economy.

Hi Ned,

I have heard your advice but not really sure where to look. I've never read an ad in our newspaper for that. I've also heard "check out college students" and that's a lead, I can call my Alma Mater, which has an extension branch about 20 minutes away.

I'm going to call there today and see if they will post it on the bulletin board. That might help if I get a taker - we could meet there and pull the sites up in the computer lab (one is not launched yet of course) but I can access it and actually work out the deal so much easier.

I read on elance for about an hour or more and it's a bit of work to "learn their system" - I could have knocked out some descriptions myself in the amount of time it took to get a dim outline of how it works!

Thanks for posting

I didn't know that SEO's did that sort of thing but only checked the structure of the site and made changes to internal linking, IBLs/OBLs and advised on Head Tags and probably a couple other things I'm not sure of off hand.

I also thought that an SEO would analyze your content for keyword density and make suggestions on your copy BUT I didn't know they would write copy.

I did call the local Branch Extension from my Alma Mater and the Student Services Director told me that they welcomed this kind of work but that students were off for the summer and traffic in the halls is very low. He asked for my URL of the existing live site to get an idea of what the existing copy was and told me he would talk to any of the tutors and teachers and see if they wanted to make a little $ re-writing the descriptions and said he'd call me back. That was about 12 hrs ago and no call yet..lol!

I'm sure if it panned out that I might experience savings and could actually meet at the computer lab and open the site that's not launched and collaborate a little to get them going. But they probably wouldn't know beans about writing "professional SEO quality" copy geared toward higher search placement.

Hmm? Spend less and not place maybe or pay more and perhaps get a much higher ROI later??

Thanks Jaan

OK, I should probably should have posted in our "Services" section lower down on the Forum - I never thought of it or really visited it many times - I always head straight to the Google board and then SEO section and usually leave from that section. Tunnel vision! (yes sir - guilty as charged).

Regards,
Chuck
