Default Why are these sites ranked??!

Can someone please tell me how this site The Ice Cavern - Tom Davidson's Website / Testbed is number one for search engineering ?

Also, can someone tell me how search engineering/search engineering consultancy/search engineering uk/search engine consultancy appears for loads of highly competitive terms? Such as search engine consultancy

The mind boggles!! Has anyone got the URL for the "google grass" page?!

Default Re: Why are these sites ranked??!

Here's how they are doing it according to them

This site has been optimised for the searchengines

This has been done using my own techniques and observations and it's actually ranking fairly well !
Searchengineering (a.k.a search engine optimisation) is the process by which the content of a web site is optimised for veiwing by the searchengine's 'spiders', these are programs that follow links around the web scoring websites for relevance to their subject matter. The scoring method is very complex and there are many outdated tricks-of-the-trade that will get the website blacklisted by these spiders.
Although searchengineering can help gain listings in the searchengines a cleanly written site will nearly always perform better if the same process has been applied to each. How do I know if my site is cleanly written I hear you ask, I have written a short checklist going over the main points starting from the top down.
  1. Specifying a valid DocType.
This information goes at the very top of every page (even above the <html> tag) and tells the browser how to interpret your code.
There are several major DocTypes in major use today:
    XHTML 1.1
    • <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.1//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml11/DTD/xhtml11.dtd">
    XHTML 1.0 Strict, Transitional, Frameset
    • <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Strict//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-strict.dtd">
    • <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
    • <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Frameset//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-frameset.dtd">
    HTML 4.01 Strict, Transitional, Frameset
    • <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/strict.dtd">
    • <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd">
    • <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Frameset//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/frameset.dtd">
If you include one of these DocTypes your page must conform to the standards that they represent, you can check your page at The W3 Consortium's HTML Validator

Lots of shitty websites rank for "seo" terms. I feel bad fro anyone that feels that those that rank high fro those keywords are good SEO Companies.

Through keyword stuffing every thing possible, Google looks more on content,

they might be using seo word more and more in their content in result of that they are getting rankings in Google.

But believe me friend, it wont give pleasure for much more time.

Google has been ranking some scraper sites also, but it is up to webmasters to help out and report spam sites as such when they see folks stealing content and ranking for it.

Even with all the great technology Google possesses, when they change the algo's bad things can happen, good sites drop and bad sites can rank, but if you report scammers when you see them, they have no chance to rank if their sites are de-indexed and that is what I do when I see a content scraper site ranking.

If you think a site is keyword stuffing, report it, but try not to report stuff just because you are mad that they are ranking ahead of you, make sure you have a crook or con man to report or Google will disregard your future spam or paid link reports.

I totally agree. We need to get pro-active! How about a "name and shame" forum where we can offer up potential offenders to the WPW community and we can all help each other out by reporting them also?

I am not sure if I understood you correctly; Are you claiming that correct HTML code is important when it comes to search engines?

Default Re: Why are these sites ranked??!

the first one is a framed site. Check out the google cached text version,..

second one,.. search engine consultancy,.... put some quotes around that phrase and search again.

Reminds me of my early days in SEO, when I was very proud of the fact that I got the first position for SEO techniques. I was so proud and thought I must be really good at SEO already.. Then one day I was no longer in first position, but in second,... then in third,.. and over the next months I completely disapeared. That's when I realized I was just the first one to come up with the keyword SEO techniques.

When others started to use that phrase too, with their much older, bigger, better sites, my new site lost out big time ofcourse.
