Smile Google Updates to Website Search Descriptions

Hi all

I have just joined this forum. I was advised by Chad to post my question to the forum here.

When I submitted my site to one of the directories somehow the wrong description was put against my website name. This has now been amended to the correct description but when I do a search in google for my website url the description is still showing the incorrect description. Can anyone tell me how long it takes google to update the information for the description, please?

Many thanks

maybe never. Google doesnt always pull from the description. Most of the time they use content from the body of the home page. Sometimes they use the DMOZ description, if you have one.

Thanks for your reply.

I have had confirmation that the directory had made an input error which has now been amended for the description of my site. The person who confirmed that this has now been rectified their end advised me that it would be a good question to put to the forum here.

The words and description on google do not appear at all on my site - I have a dog grooming site (Welcome To The DIY Dog Grooming Website) and their description was for designer handbags - totally unrelated and nothing about handbags in my site. So, therefore, sure google would be spidering the directories and updating them on a fairly regular basis - I just thought that someone might have some knowledge about this.

Appreciate your assistance.

Hi activco

It is solved as far as the directory is concerned but when I type my web address into the google search box and it shows the link for that directory the description is still showing about designer handbags. Does this mean that forever I am going to have this handbag description for that directory's link or will google pick it up through spidering and amend it? I hope this makes sense.

Thanks

Thats true but if google does not find the enough content in body of page its looks into meta description of the page. If there is not enough content in meta description tag then it looks into directories where site is published.

I can't find it from here:
http://www.diydoggrooming.com/ - Google Search

Neither I see any links except from a forum message and b.dhalia (if you refer to that one, it stands corrected, but I see no Google reference to it)

What I did was bring up a clean google page with the search box on the screen. I type in Welcome To The DIY Dog Grooming Website and then the search finds the results. The third bottom entry shows:-

XYZ... - SUPER HUGE DIRECTORY - AMwart.com
http://www.diydoggrooming.com. 869. Barbaraforhandbags.com Designer handbags including Louis Vuitton, Fendi, Gucci, Prada, Versace and many more, ...
XYZ... - Super Huge Directory - AMwart.com - 15k - Cached - Similar pages - Note this

There is is nothing in this description which relates to to dog grooming and my website has 10 meta keywords which
are all to do with dog grooming.

The correction has been made by Amwart Directory but will this description every change is what I wanted to know.

Thanks for your help.

Is it true that the more links back to my site increases my google ranking?
