Google Sitemap not verifying

Has anyone had trouble verifying their site with Google sitemaps lately?

I uploaded my html file and when you click on it you can see the blank page that you are supposed to, but I keep getting this message:

Last attempt Apr 29, 2008: Our system has experienced a temporary problem.

I take this message as "google" is having a problem with their system and that's why it isn't verifying. I have been getting this message for the last two days.

Anyone else having any trouble.

Usually, it's a problem with the server timing out when Google is trying to retrieve the file.

Keep trying every couple of hours or wait until late evening and give it another try.

I've been trying now to verify it every few hours around the clock but still not getting through.

Now I'm beginning to wonder if it's a problem with the server that the sites on. Google did accept the sitemap and it shows all the pages but it still won't verify it.

Still wondering????

You have to verify your site with google again adding their requested meta tag of html file.
You can get that info in their tool.

I'd been having trouble getting my site verified as well until I used the file upload method. It's definitely a server issue.

I usually opt for the blank html file to upload (with their name) to get the site verified but as of yesterday that still wasn't working.

I switched to their Meta Tag method of verifying the site and it worked first time.

The site is asp.net, so maybe that had something to do with it. Not sure, but it's finally verified so I'm happy.

This sort of problem occurs if there is a problem with the server. Just try at a later date. Definitely it will get verified.
