Default Google Sitemap indexed pages count?

Been using an xml sitemap on a new site (6 months) for about 2-3 months now, the site had 55000 pages and 44000 indexed prior to submiting a sitemap. Admitedly there were some pages indexed that I did not want indexed and are now not indexed.

Here is my head scratcher.

Since submiting the site map I noticed a gradual reduction of indexed pages using the site:www.d o m a i n.co.uk search from 44k down to 22k over a 2 month period. This has now bottomed out and is now on the climb so I am not to conserned as I know there were pages indexed that I were not supposed to be.

However the Sitemap statistics in the Google webmaster tools is suggesting I have 42999 pages indexed when infact the site:www.d o m a i n.co.uk search is showing 24,100.??

Indexed URLs in Sitemap 42999

PS the site has just had an increase of 80k products in the last 2 days, hence the 125126 pages now in the site map.

Is there a reason that you do not post the URL? We could tell some interesting stuff if you would.

I do not wish to draw attention to my competitors of my methods in any way, they have access to the sorce of my pages. I don't wish to educate any of them in anyway.

What I am discussing here can apply to any industry and any website, we dont need to show all our cards to help each other, do we?

If I understand correct what you are about, you are talking about how do damage a site, increasing supplemental pages.

Check you site with this tool Supplemental Index Ratio Calculator and tell us how many pages are in the main index and how many in the supplementals.

Even if I could not check your site since your URL is secret, I smell a huge supplemental pages ratio.

ok, and then I would presume that you would not expect to find a page that was in the supplemental ranking #6 for an seo + term search out of 500k pages?

if this should be a correct assumption can I pm you an example of an exception to the rule?

Webnauts I think you may be correct as we have not seen a significant drop in hits to the site maybe we only had 22k pages indexed and the other 22k were sup. As for how long it will take for Google to index 125000 product pages?

Thanks Webnauts

PS

Really helpfull having a thread full of private conversations.!
