Default iGoogle and social media tabbing.

Today I used social tabbing on iGoogle for the first time.

I made a tab:

DigitalNorway

and sent it to a friend with the following message:

"I send this tab from iGoogle that I do not know if you use. Here http://www.digitalnorway.com/ is a site that filters important Norwegian sites by region etc".

I checked for a copy, and got a copy of the email that showed that my friend could tag the tab and share it with others by clicking a link and hitting a button.
  1. Do you use iGoogle for social media tabbing?
  2. And how effective is it?
  3. Any experience?
IMO it is a very important tab, since there are so many foreign sites on Norway, that may be confused with sites made by Norwegians.

As some times happens at forums, I have to talk to myself.

No answer / comment or reaction to this utterly important topic?
  1. Aren't you using iGoogle?
  2. Add to Google - Information for Publishers
What do you think is the most used start page on the web? Don't you see the traffic potential? As an example, and giving back value to this IMO extremely important post, make an account and click the last link in my signature and iGoogle the link at the top of the right hand menu.

Then you have a
  1. personalized Google home page.
  2. Object oriented resources at your fingertips.

Who uses this stuff Kgun?

Google the software giant (not the search engine, the weblink farm, the email host, the orkut, the klurg gunship) is pushing a new tin-foil rss handcuff that you can email (spam) your friends with. Click on one of my links below and call it a tab?

I am confused as to why it would be needed or used? I am sure you have something more in mind than a nationalistic filter for content. Other than a google feedburner competitor what will this give us? More page rank? Higher serps at google for using the tools?

I think google should spin off its search engine and stop confusing people because it is software giant, an advertising network, a web farm affiliate network and now an rss feed burner. I think people will continue to believe google will not mix metaphors or "be evil" but that is not a "search engine" you are talking about anymore.

There are still people that think working for a Walt Disney Company means Mickey, Minnie and Pluto all wholesome and good, but I can tell you first hand that is like thinking Google is a search engine just trying to give good sites for search returns.

At least you are not talking to yourself. So what makes this the butter-knifes edge?

Have you tried it?

In my opinion it is the best social media site on the internet.

Example of how I use it:
  1. I combine it with the Opera web browser, where iGoogle is my home page.
  2. CTRL + Enter, and I am in the Gmail inbox.
  3. Extremely easy to configure, eg. by tabbing my del.icio.us bookmarks etc. and drawing content around where I want it placed.
  4. IMO, your critique is not fair unless you have tried it for a while.
  5. In the end it is about efficiency when you surf the web.

Perhaps we differ in our vision or choice of efficeincy?

I have 47 email accounts to deal with and use one email program to handle it all. It sits on my desktop and connects to the 12 servers to collect mail and disperse replies. Could I even handle my three google email addys?

I have to use IE6 and 7 because that way I see what 92 percent of my visitors see. I cannot really be bothered with the ones on 5 and those on Opera and FireLox can see the stuff.

I found their offered widget wizard pretty poor and feedburners to be much better.

If it does not handle the many emails it is as crippled as the US version of Yahoo (did you know you can do pop3 with a Yahoo UK account for free?) Can it handle 32 multiple accounts?

My browser already looks like the dashboard of a rocket ship and how many buttons and widgets does anyone want in their face. I have to see what users see. I have to use what the vast majority of my sites visitors use. I have over 100 sites to monitor and work so I have no time to just switch browsers to do my work. I apologize as part of my lack of sympathy to your find when it works with Opera. Can you do a sceen video?

I looked at that button and it is a feedburner. So the once search engine is now going to be feedburner too. That was my critique. Google is not a search engine. It uses a faux search that produces bogus returns based on its affiliate farm of adsense sites. Isn't this just taking an old business model someone else is doing and pasting it onto your vehicle? Googles is now a many headed hydra. But it is not a search engine. Yahoo! and live are doing far better and delivering real results without pasting faux sites while busting out those that don't hold adsense sponsorships.

I use iGoogle too. I haven't tried social tabbing, thanks for sharing this info.
The way I see it, it works like most social bookmarking sites

Yes, but some people like my Son use Google as his home page. Then, what is better than having a personalized Google home page?

My youngest daughter has just ordered an Apple iMac with a lot of software, so they follow the trend
