An accurate rank check
Hi everyone,
O.K. so I'm a little confused with something. I do a check daily on my keyword "wedding invitations" by simply entering the keyword in google.com.au. I actually do this about 10 times a day. It appeared my position dropped from #4 to #12. This was based purely on the result from google search. I brought this to the attention of the SEO that is helping me and he said he see's me at #6 when he searches. He advised to check Google analytics, which I did and it says I average in at #6, verifying his comment. I also get the same responce from other people, that they see me around the same position in searches (#6). Does anyone know why I don't see the same results? I can aprreciate that I am probably accessing different datacentres, but such a fluctuation seems a tad inaccurate. I really only care about what my potential customers see in searches, but definately want confirmation of what they actually see as well. Is analytics the most accurate way? I remember reading something last year in the forums that Google is trying to customise searches to the individual user, so is this what its showing me. If so, then I don't think the results are very accurate (in my opinion of course) as I always click on my own site when doing these searches and not my competitors as much, much a one in 10 ratio (my site being clicked by me 10 times more). Also, is there a way to see what everone else see's in the results, not what may be customised for me?
Hope my question makes sense

Re: An accurate rank check
I certainly don't know the answer to your question because it is beyond me. However I show you as #11 when I searched.

Yes, you can:
- use GoogleRankings.com if you have a SOAP API key
- can clear your cache and cookies and use Google
- use AdvanceRankings.com
- other software or subscription services such as WebCEO, Web Position Gold or others.

That is not right. You can check up to the first 1000 results.

Thanks! I see that now. The default preference was set to ten. This is much better. And it says SEO Web Design & Copywriting is #9 for seo web design today! Can I trust that? Scroogle says the same thing, and you and weslinda rather convinced me not to trust Scroogle ...

Re: An accurate rank check
Scroogle matches these numbers today ...
but I like this little tool *much* better ... now my search queries are there and I can see the history as well. This is great! Now, is there any advantage to putting my SOAP key in this Google monitor?
Is there such a tool for Yahoo?

I guess yes, as you get the most accurate results. If not, can happen that there can be a little difference of positions higher or lower, but somethink like one or too so far I experienced.

Yes, but you have to buy it. But you can be sure that is rules: Accurate Monitor for Search Engines - search engine web ranking tool, software works with Google, MSN, Yahoo
If you have any questions that cannot be answered on the site let me know. I know the company owner and I have him in my IM, so I can ask him any time.

Re: An accurate rank check
Now, I just added another site and it returned no results for any of its keywords, though Google shows top ten ranking for it, as does GoogleRankings.com ... maybe I have reached its limit????
Then I added my API key and voila it is showing the results I expected ...
Also, I noticed something I have never seen before. When I go to do a regular search in Google now, it asks me to complete a captcha ... tells me I look like an automated bot ...

Never noticed before? I have that every day when I am trying to get the supplemental index results. But I can still trick them.
Too deep search can result in captcha appearing at Google.

That must be from the new monitor, as I had never seen it before ...

That has absolutely nothing to do with the monitor. I get that message when I do manually searches with Google and I exceed a certain amount of search results pages.

Well, I hadn't done any searches today to speak of ... and it happened immediately after I first downloaded the free monitor and ran it ... hard to think it's not related.

Re: An accurate rank check
So, what could cause that? I have definitely not done any deep searches manually ...

Try a deep manual search with the site: operator and yu will see at some point what will happen. And I assume they are checking your behavior from you IP and not just alone with cookies.
