Not only Google but also other search engines often change their algo when they think it is required. They want to give the best results to the searchers.

The search engines are constantly updating their algorithms to refine and improve their results. Also, you must take into account that the Web 2.0 has opened new opportunities to spam search engines and artificially improve the positioning of certain webs. That is forcing the Search Engines to improve their algos more often.

I think you are referencing this WPN video:

Google Changes Algorithm? » WebProNews Videos

Here is the Sphinn thread on the article that WPN obviously used to create the video:

Sphinn - Google's Algorithm Awarding New Pages?

Google's Algorithm Awarding New Pages?

Bottom line is that Google has always ranked fresh content a little better than it truly deserves for a 2-3 weeks. I have seen this for years.

Agreed Jaan. Their "minty fresh" approach is getting broader. I do see a couple of problems from a personal perspective. When inserted, these "fresh" results haven't been exactly highly relevant from my perspective. "Minty fresh" but not what I was looking for.

I like the changes. It forces older sites to not only create new pages but update older ones as well. Good fresh, up-to-date content. It's what i would want if i were doing a search.
