Redirection counts as backlink?

Hi,

Do you have any evidence that links based on redirection are counted as backlinks in Google and thus PR is transferred through them?
I've always thought that only static links are PR-valuable, but recently checked links of one of my competitors (http://www.google.pl/search?hl=pl&in...logosik.pl&lr=) and saw that last result (no. 10) had only redirection link to his site, which means that redirect now counts.
Correct me if I am not right.

Not sure if this is helpful, but I seem to remember reading in another forum that redirection links are initially counted and PR may go up to as high as 7,8,9..., but eventually Google catches on and the page drops to PR0 and then from the SERPs.

If Google truly penalizes redirects, then it has a lot of catching up to do, as many top ranking sites have redirects, as of 02.22.04!
