Default WebMaster Tools Ext. Links Differ from Link: Command
Can someone clarify why the link:domain.com command, on Google's search, differs from the "external" links within the Webmaster Tools (Pages with external links)?

The <link:www.netnettech.com> command produces only six items and three of them are actually the relevant sub-pages. Yet there are over 400 listings within the Webmaster tools.

Google shows website owners the actual list of links, but does not display that to searchers who do not own the site. And they do that because webmasters used to study the links of the competition in order to get links from the same sites that made a competitor successful in the SERPs ... hope that clarifies for you.

link:domain.com command is a sample and the results from within GWT are just a larger sample.

You can also use Yahoo Site Explorer to see a full list of links into a domain.

In Yahoo search enter link:domain.com. You will automatically be redirected to Site Explorer when entering the link: operator.
