Hi. I have a new website and am wondering how often I need to submit a sitemap to google. I guess it's either:
1) Everytime a page's content changes OR 2) Everytime the structure of the website changes. Which of the above 2 is right or do I need to submit the sitemap when something else happens? King regards, Raj |

I'm not 100% sure on this but my gut insticnct would be that you only need to submit the sitemap once.
If you use Google's Sitemap Generator that should automatically check for any changed or added pages. HTH

If you have done this right you will only have to submit your sitemap once. Every website that you have a sitemap associated with it should be entered into google sitemaps. https://www.google.com/accounts/Serv...overview&hl=en. Google will send a spider each day to check your sitemap and if any timestamps have changed the spider will look for the new page.

Assuming your sitemap is fully conformant to Sitemap Protocol 0.9 as dictated by sitemaps.org, you should only need to submit it once, but would need to update it onsite by re-generating the code every time you make an alteration to the structure of your site.
If you provide a user link to your sitemap, you don't even need to submit it as Google will find it and figure it out the next time it does a comprehensive crawl of your site. (Generally when it caches your site, you can find this out by typing your complete URL including the http into the google search field and noting what date your site was cached). |

Once. From my experiences Googlebot is crawling the sites extremly frequently, maybe even several times per day so all new content will be indexed very quickly. However, it could take time when it will be assigned proper ranking and will visible in searches.
Take a look to your server log and find out, how frequently your site has been crawled by Googlebot.

All,
Well, I think you are all partially correct. You only need to do the setup once, and ansure a relevant html page exists on the server. After this, you need a cron job, that recreates the sitemap.xml and emails google with the fact that it has changed. I do this on a weekly basis. I would recommend this happening at a frequency that suits you. Interestingly, I get good google results for major keywords, but I suffer from images showing in searches, and many pages that I have are vastly superior to those that are found from other sites, in google searches. How do I resubmit my Sitemap once it has changed?
You must initially add your Sitemap to Google webmaster tools using your Google Account. When your Sitemap changes, you can resubmit it to Google to let us know. You can resubmit your Sitemap in one of two ways: https://www.google.com/support/webma...609&topic=8496 Good Question Google seem to imply submit sitemaps when it changes. At least for now... but Maybe too many time may be classed as spamming... So I wouldn't do it 50 times a day, just a joke Say once a month I think, unless they are a lot of changes. |

If can do that every time you add a new page, but you don't really need to.

Just update your sitemap when your website has changed and ping the search engines if you want them to see it immediately

when u update ur website add new sitemap

You just need to submit it once, Once you submit it google spider will crawl it asap and put urls to be spidered, and Google will check your site map everyday for few weeks and understand how often you change your content. If you keep updating your sitemap everyday Google will keep coming to your site everyday else 2 days, 3 days, week, or more.

Are you serious? I hope not!
