Thumbs up Start thinking like Google does!

I am already trying to think like Google since I got involved in SEO. Do you do that too?

Please read this article and tell me if you disagree with that info in whole or partially?
How Google works - overview and features - The Definitive Google ranking strategy guide by Google

I am very interested to hear your thoughts.

Thanks,

John

I very rarely disagree with Webnauts. . (I am not realy in disagreement)
he said "I am already trying to think like Google since I got involved in SEO. Do you do that too?"

I try desperately hard not to think like Google, rather I try to think more in terms of what Google might be in a few years time.

Whenever I read an article about Google penalising someone, or a page, or a web site. the affected is always recognised by Google from a 'pattern' - the pattern becomes easily recognisable when several thousand sites follow the same strategy, (popular linking strategies) - thinking like Google. . Not for me, I want Google to search my site and scurry off in total confusion.

One day when Search engines have evolved, maybe I will get some traffic. . (although I do get enough to feed myself)

I still prefer to think like my users. . but I must admit I too move things around with the Big G in mind.

But No . . I shall not be attempting to think like Google.

But the point of the thread is good, we do need to step outside ourselves and look at where the traffic comes from, and WHY? . . and understanding Google's perspective, is extremely important.

just try not to climb aboard the bandwagon, when you do not know exactly where it is going. . If you end up as a recognisable (Pattern) you could get washed out with the trash..

Another point - many WebProWorld users here, Like myself, (income through adsense)
see google in the PPC site mode, we optimise for traffic with 'variation' to strict SEO
specifications. Google wears more than one hat..

Well I sure do the same Tubby. Just think about my debates about clean markup, etc.

No, no, no. Please don't fear. I do not want to start that topic here.

So lets stick on the article.

I think that many of these tips are more about your user than Google.

You should be looking to create new, fresh content, value for your visitors and your pages should be as light and tuned as possible so that your site is valuable to the most users no matter their location or connection speed.

I prefer to work first for my visitors, then tune for the engines as needed.

I can certainly say I'm not impressed with Google recently, with the focus obviously being on cashflow to the organization and nothing else. Results have suffered and it typically takes a few searches to actually locate what I'm looking for.

This particular article was fairly blah to me and actually hard to read from a visual standpoint. Nothing new here, nothing exciting here, and nothing beyond common sense in this article.

If you would disable their stylesheets you would not have the problem.

I'm not going to work so I can read a web site. I'm simply going to go elsewhere. Poor work tells me you probably don't know what you are doing or talking about.

It's like showing up for a job interview covered in dirt and wearing ripped clothes. Yes, if we all get naked we're the same, but really who will take someone seriously who doesn't give the time to do something right? I think not.
