I have a discount shopping site Discount Hypermarket - Shopping Portal with Free Discount codes, Promotional codes, Discount Vouchers and when i search google with the keyword discounthypermarket, the site is not at number one.
I have tried changing keywords, increasing the number of keywords in the main body of the index and cannot get the page to number one. Is there something fundamentally wrong with the page? I realise there is not much text on the page, but i wanted the page to look as it does and not pack text in it to scam the search engines. Cheers Andrew

Hmm...where to start. Well, how long has the site been live? That can have an impact. You also noted that you don't want to appear spammy with a lot of text. More text would be appreciated by the SE's, and the amount of times I glance and see the word "discount" would make me scream "spam!" I would suggest to site down, and re-write everything on the site, but without giving consideration to "discount," or "discounthypermarket." Once done, just make sure they are on there (you will use the words naturally just because that is the nature of the subject matter).
After that, begin on your link building. Remember that anchor text counts. But again, make it look natural. 200 inbound links with the same anchor will look a little odd. Finally, are you really sure you want to be found under the term "discounthypermarket?" How many people are really searching for that term, and in one-word form?

You could also refine the english in this line at the top of the main page -
"Your can search for online shops on with discounts codes and offers using by the either using the menus below, ..." I agree with jgarner - why would anyone use discounthypermarket as a search term? Think in terms of the searcher - what terms would they use to find what you offer? Discount coupons? Store discounts? Store coupons? Coupon codes? These type keyword phrases would work in writing content for the main page - just don't overdo it and make sure to use good tags (h1, h2, B, I, etc)
