Default Would changing web host have any affect on SE results?

I'm considering changing our web host from earthlink to hostgator. My understanding is that this should be transparent to search engines once the dust settles.
Any down side to doing this? Opinions?

Changing Hosts normally does not affect your ranking in any way, big or small. All that changes is the IP address. Your domain name and full URLs remain exactly the same -- and the url is what gets indexed un a search engine.

Follow these steps while switching to different host-
Moving to a new web host

I would just make sure the old hosting account stays live for a month after the move.

I don't see how, as nothing besides the ip changes. unless there is something that would raise the google bot's ire.

Only if there is extended downtime and possibly if the location of the new server is in a different country
