I have made somewhat of an accidental experiment. I made a mod to one of my sites which has a PR3. I pasted the wrong key words into the site from another site of mine.
The topics are 100% different. PR3 site is travel related. The site with where the keywords are supposed to be has a PR2 and is a shopping cart centered site. The pattern I have noticed is that the Travel site gets more organic Google hits for the non-travel keywords than the site where the keywords belong. The keywords are for a shopping cart system nothing to do with travel. We have all decided that content is key and that keywords are not really that important. If this is true why would a site with more backlinks and the wrong keywords get more traffic than a site that has a lower PR and is designed for its keywords. Not sure if this really means anything. What do you think? Have you seen similar trends? |

One test isn't statistically relevant.
Try this again with at least three pair of websites then see what happens.

The website with the wrong keywords is only one page. The website with the correct keywords is several hundred pages.
The meta data was copied and pasted to the wrong site. Found the organic traffic looking at Google analytics. |

Yes I pasted the meta keywords by accident into the wrong site. My point to this thread is if they don't matter to Google then why am I getting Google organic traffic based on those keywords.

Cant you post the pages, keyword targeted so we can review?
I am sure their are other reasons why the page is ranking besides the keyword tag. You could have internal or external links with those keywords in the anchor text pointing to the page. You could have content on the page that matches those keywords. many other reasons why. |

Please give us the link to your page so we can check it out.
The Meta keywords tag is not important for Google, but still should have relevance to the title and description tag. The title tag is most important. Description tag is somewhat important.
