Google loses court battle to German upstart

A young German entrepreneur won a legal battle Thursday against Internet behemoth Google on the use of its "Gmail" brand for free electronic mail service.

The regional court in the northern city of Hamburg ruled that Google may not use the name in Germany, upholding 33-year-old businessman Daniel Giersch's claim to have a copyright on the name for an e-mail service he has been developing for seven years.

Question Re: Google loses court battle to German upstart

So they were not able to use their own SE ("Google") the name or there was no info on the internet about the German company?

The same has happened to simula. It is used in the USA, but I think a company that wanted to register the domanin in Norway would get problems.

A brand is a brand. Ask Warren Buffett often called the worlds best investor, if you are in doubt.

Noted today:
Simula.com does noe exist as a standalone site longer and redirects to Armor Holdings Aerospace & Defense Group

It existed some months ago.

So far as I'm aware the issue, above, only relates to GMail vs. G-Mail,

Maybe this will let you find out more:-

Cite:
"Neither G-Mail nor I can be bought," Giersch said in a statement.

Isn't everything, except your soul, for sale if the price is high enough?

Personally, unless it was my soul, I would have sold it for NOK 1 mill, about 150 000 USD. The longer the case lasts, the more valuable the name may be, because of publicity and AD.

P.S.
What about registering ?-?????.com or variants thereoff?

Replace ? with relevant characters.
