Default John Chow Banned in Google...Still?

I was wondering what everyone felt about John Chow website being basically baned in Google for simply trying to be monetize. Personally I think it is awful if it was a hand job by Google. First off relevance is ruined for the query "John Chow" and second it makes Google look petty. Sort of like if your not making money with us you wont be in the Google SERPs.

I have a detailed blog posting at my blog everyone should read through for more details:

Awful. Banning a site because it turns out bad, or non-existent content is what search engines ought to be concerned with. There's still a ton of crap returned by all the engines, some of it has been there for years. High ranking websites are allowed to create pages with nothing but ads & offsite links to other sources (wikipedia etc) and rewarded with a page one keyword result simply because they have "trust" whatever that is supposed to be.
I though Google lived or died by it's algorithm a couple of years ago. Evidently times have changed. The implications for anyone trying to launch a new site are quite alarming.

Some spammer brought this old article back up, but anyone know if the poor sot is still banned?
