Default Google and the UK

Does anyone see the purpose in all the listings from the UK when using Google? I have to search and search to get past all the UK listings. In addition, it it puts my site farther back. I'm I the only one who notices this? I am searching from the United States. It just seems weird that I would have to fight for poistion with other countries when it's hard enough to get on top with just the 'local' competition.

Hi I'm new to the forum. What you are experiencing is very normal. If there are UK businesses or articles that deal with the same topic you have, they will be competing for first spots as well. There is nothing that excludes foreign countries to compete with US companies for organic search rankings on Google. Just keep adding useful content to your site (content that isn't overly stuffed with keywords) and your ranking will improve. Also, keep trying to join forums or blogs to connect with people and establish linkbacks and referals to your site. Good luck!

Kevin are you located in the states and searching using non-uk type queries?

Yes. That is correct. I have noticed today that there are fewer UK sites now than there were when I first posted. Google was up to something. I was using the search phrase "horse racing software". There are still some uk results. The thing is, the info in the uk very seldom has anything to do with the north american tracks, so I don't see that there is much relevance including uk results.

If I had software that worked in the uk, I would want it listed in Google.uk, and not .com. It just makes sense to go for a more targeted audience.

That sounds like good advise, Ayat, thanks.

Hmm

I did a search for the same keyword term and all that was returned was .com & .net

I am in Pennsylvania

Sure you are not signed into the google.co.uk engine somehow?

No, I am not subscribed to uk.

They may very well be .com or .net but they are still uk sites with uk terminology. The 10th one down is actually a .uk site.

Google, being as sophisticated as it is, should know that when terms like "punter" and "laying" is used that it has nothing to do with North American horse racing. Of course Google should also know that 90% of their adwords ads displayed with that search term are in violation of their own policy. Here's where I refrain from calling them names now.

"horse racing software" - Google Search

Default UK and Gambling

Kevin,

I suggest the reason UK sites may do well on a horseracing site is because the UK is the world leader in online gaming. The US has tried to ban online gambling, whereas the UK government has embraced it.
