Sometimes you just have to grin and bear it - there are no choices.

I know why this page is top on Google UK for one of my keywords 'Right to Buy Mortgages' - but can you guys see what I'm seeing? You will have to dig hard and concentrate. But get ready for spammed keyword spelling -really bad SEO -but Google loves it.
WHY?
(I'm on page 3 on my data base)

I'm seeing the page at #6 on Google.uk.

#6 for allinanchor too.

If you're talking about the meta keywords, it has no effect in Google.

Amusing maybe - but we always tell our posters to go for relevancy and links. You cannot compare my content to theirs. We are miles and miles ahead of them. And we have .govs pointing at us - so the question remains - Why??

How many links do you have using that exact phrase as anchor text?

Neither of those links use the phrase.

As a matter of fact, you don't use that phrase anywhere on your page. Don't think you use it anywhere on the site.

This has nothing to do with Googlebombing.

Tell you what David. You want to rank better for that phrase?

Change your Nav link text to... "Right to Buy Mortgages / First Time Buyers" or just "Right to Buy Mortgages"

Also, change your <h2> on the right-to-buy.html page to match the nav link.

Watch what happens.

We've had a discussion like this before. Using the individual words on a page is not using the phrase.

Ok - we use the phrase Right to Buy on about 4 main frame pages. Text on "linksto" is always based on - Right to Buy from CTAB - As you can see Google has picked that up - On ASK we have been top for 4 years - Page one on Yahoo - MSN we do OK on Live.

On Google we are top for
Right to Buy News
Right to Buy Lenders
Right to Buy Information

Check out Mortgages for High Rise Flats - Or Right to Buy High Rise Flats -we do pretty well.

All in all we have far more links to us on those expressions than any other UK Website.

The reason that they are figured is not because they have more Right to Buy Information - indeed they have a fraction of our content. The reason they beat us on that one search is not 'links to their page' but the massive amount that they have accrued on hundreds of pages. In my books Google has not ranked them for either 'relevance or links' but simply an overall web presence.

If you want to try and rank higher for the phrase you can try my suggestion and see what happens. Forgot to include, change the right-to-buy.html page title to include the word "mortgages".

If you do indeed rank higher, it won't have anything to do with overall web presence.

That page beats you because they use the phrase and you don't.

And we do have differences of opinion. But we laugh about it.

No we are not a quango -we just knew the right people to get the Company name - But this is where SEO/SEM gets a bit more interesting. If CD suggested that we created a page purely on that keyword then maybe we should take another factor into account. That being 'cached expressions'.
