Default wanted keyword opinion

Hello there...!
For a new site just got indexed [organic], for a better placement, which of the following strategies would you prefer in the selection of KEYWORDS.

1] High search volume + High advertiser competition
2] High search volume + low advertiser competition
3] low/ave search volume + nearly '0' advertiser competition

webmaster opinions welcome

A lot depends upon what you're wanting to accomplish.

An ecommerce site for example is likely to want to generate sales. So ranking for keywords their potential customers would most likely be searching for would be a priority. It may not have anything to do with number of searches or advertising competition. Niche or long tailed terms.

A site selling advertising spots would likely be looking for highly targeted traffic and a site wanting to generate adsense income would likely be looking for large traffic not necessarily highly targetted as what was hoping to be accomplished is click throughs.

Thumbs up Re: wanted keyword opinion

I agree with crankydave that relevance of the keywords in ecommerce is as important as the search volume and competition.
