Default Google and Multiple domains

If I buy another domain name and hosting and build great content on it but also link back to a few of my other domains (not an awful lot) can Google find out that I own them all? And is there a way to get round this?

Since Google is a registrar, Google does have access to all site ownership information, so cloaking your domain ownership doesn't work if Google *really* wants to know. Of course, you can purchase the domain under a different name - a family member you could trust, for example ... but why?

If the new site has unique relevant content, I don't believe Google will object if it links to your other sites.

What will you gain, cloaked or open? One good link to each of your other sites? Why not concentrate on solid content building on the sites you want to promote; say, add a blog to each and tap into that power? Build legitimate one way links? Tried and true ways to get quality incoming links would be the most powerful use of your time, I believe.

IMO (and I have plenty ), MJ

I just didn't want it to look spammy if I have a web design site and then build a web design directory for my country and as I've built a valuable resource for my competitors I'd be entitled to list my site prominently and get the link back.

I have a web design/seo directory within my web design/seo site and it has served the site well. It started out as a recip directory, but over time I just linked to whatever sites I liked and didn't worry about whether they linked back. It needs cleaning up, better organization, but client sites always get my attention first ...

I have decided to do a second site - it will be a blog (probably) and it will be related to search friendly design .. but I am doing it separately with the idea that it might be a site I could someday sell ...

FWIW, MJ

You don't want to look like mini-network of websites, trying inflate PR in Google eyes. Buy all the domains you want, but if they are similar theme 301 redirect them to the primary.

Google can find out anything to do with your registration of your domain name. I am 100% sure they aren’t going to penalize you for owning more then one site. I contracted for a company for about 4 years managing their sites. They had over 100 independent and totally unique content-based sites. We linked them back and forth to each other in articles of relevant content. We also broke our main site down and used some of the other URLs as supporting articles domains. Now this wouldn’t work well unless you have a lot of good content to put on each page and each site.

We found we had some of our “supporting-sites” ranking better for some keywords then our main site. Now typically this could be a problem but we figured as long as one of our sites were getting listed well, they are all linked together, so who cares.

Like I mentioned before, this worked for the industry I was working in at the time. I may or may not work for you. My suggestion is to take your current site and build it as large as you can and make it still look and navigate well. Then start building “sister” sites that link back and forth. You can also use the sister sites to build your reciprocal links. Your main site will benefit from being linked to a site with good link popularity.

Hope my experiences help! Just my 2-cents!
