Hi everyone
I was hoping someone might be able to shed some light on a recent issue. Disaster has struck for one of my clients in Google. The home page was ranked in top 5 positions for their primary keyphrases but the home page has now been removed from listings! Only the extra pages of the site (which rank, but not as highly) are there when I run the site:www.mysite.co.uk query in Google. I am not using any spamming techniques. The only thing I can think of is that we also have a .com site which is the same (as the client is global) but that just redirects to .co.uk. All my SEO activities have been based around the .co.uk site etc. Could it be possible that Google have penalised me by removing the .co.uk to avoid me having duplicate sites and left me with the .com site for which no SEO activities have been carried out? Are there any other reasons this could have happened? Should I take the .com site down (as little traffic came from this domain anyway) to allow the .co.uk site to be relisted? Any ideas greatly appreciated. Thanks L |

Your message is a little confused to me but I seem to grasp that you have dropped using the .co.uk domain entirely when that has been your primary focus to date? Many companies have both of these (the .com and .co.uk) and it does no harm.
If you have recently dropped a domain entirely then of course that will be the reason why because the indexing is done on a per-domain basis and redirects will have the site doing the redirecting dropped from the index and the site being redirected to being indexed. It is quite common practice for search engines to delete entries that come from redirects and just keep hold of the site being redirected to. It makes sense of course, why hold a load of redirects in their index? That just diminishes the user experience of the search engines. But yeah, that's what I think if I have understood your message correctly, others may be able to help also.
