Default Strange pages in my google webmaster tools stats

I have very recently signed up to the google webmaster tools.
I checked it the other day and had a look at the errors. I had quite a few 404 page not found errors. Seems ok so far, but the page names were pages that I do not own and never have owned???
However, these page name were kind of related to my site theme. Am I right in assuming that these pages may have been from the ads in my adsense????
If so, then that is a bit shoddy isn't it? Surely google can discount those links. Or is it caused by something else???
Has anyone else noticed this type of occurance?

Hard to tell if you don't post a few. I see errors often in this tool for pages that simply don't exist on my side. Remember Googlebot could be following links from other pages (scrappers) to links on your website that don't exist.

Hi Incredihelp

you mean other sites that link to my old pages?? It cannot be that because the page names have definitely never been used on my site. My site is about spain and the pages that are giving the 404 errors are named like
Barcelona.html
jean.html
etc
these are towns in spain so there is a connection somewhere, the only thing that i could think of is the adsense???????

If I create a link on my website and link it to yours and call it:

randelldspain.com/whatever.html

Google is going to follow my link and try to find it on your website. You would then see a 404 error for this page in your logs and in GWC. Of course it doesn't exist, but it could be what your seeing.

I too see some links which doesn't exists like "www.mydomain.com/%20" and Googlebot is searching for it and the server header shows 404 and I am noticing this URL in Webmaster Tool since 2 months.

I agree, don't worry about it, I get those errors sometimes and I know there are no links within my site to the pages they are showing.
