Default pr from 4 to 3 but google search results way up

I recently reworked my site (I think for the better) around the same time my pr dropped from 4 to 3 but my search ranking went up in Google. Almost all (75%)of my search traffic now comes from Google. Granted I have more pages than I used to so there more opportunity but it was sudden and the two things coincided. A year ago, when I launched my site, I was getting great results from MSN within one month, seems to be a bit less now. I know MSN revamped their search so that might explain that. How do you explain Google now liking my site but dropping my pr? I'm not complaining, I think its great, I'm just wondering if pr is important.

PR is only important for users and directories that rely on it as an indication of search result relevance.

For the most part, this applies to people who choose to install the Google toolbar and take the time to enable the PR tool.

Don't pay too much attention to it since there's not much you can do about it. It rises and falls depending on a myriad of top secret algorithms and comparisons between yours and similar sites.

If you're seeing increased/sustained traffic and/or revenue, you're on the right track. Don't worry, it's all good.

This is exactly why you need to forget about "PageRank" and concentrate on traffic and visitors.

I know a site that's a PR2 and gets 500,000 pageviews a day. PageRank means nothing now.

Because PR does not dictate your rankings!!

Keep doing what your doing. I have plenty of clients that dominate their listings, get great traffic and convert with PR3/PR4 websites.

Another reason your traffic could have increased is its increasing age. I started a site in 2005 that experienced a sudden increase in traffic from Google almost exactly a year after the Google bot first crawled it. I hadn't made any changes to the site for several months, so that doesn't explain it. I believe that as a site gets older, the Google algo steadily improves its rankings.
