Google says:

Quote:
Don't participate in link schemes designed to increase your site's ranking or PageRank. In particular, avoid links to web spammers or "bad neighborhoods" on the web, as your own ranking may be affected adversely by those links.

Linking to a free ringtones site, an SEO contest, and an Omega 3 fish oil site? I think I’ve found your problem. I’d think about the quality of your links if you’d prefer to have more pages crawled. As these indexing changes have rolled out, we’ve improving how we handle reciprocal link exchanges and link buying/selling.
Quote:
Several times during the session, it was readily apparent that someone had tried to do reciprocal links as a “quick hit” to increase their link popularity. When I saw that in the backlinks, I tried to communicate that 1) it was immediately obvious to me, and therefore our algorithms can do a pretty good job of spotting excessive reciprocal links, and 2) in the instances that I looked at, the reciprocal links weren’t doing any good. I urged folks to spend more time looking for ways to make a compelling site that attract viral buzz or word of mouth. Compelling sites that are well-marketed attract editorially chosen links, which tend to help a site more.

your site seems like an example of one of those sites that might have been crawled more before because of link exchanges. I picked five at random and they were all just traded links. Google is less likely to give those links as much weight now. That’s the simple explanation for why we don’t crawl you as deeply, in my opinion.

The right question is “Why aren’t as many of my pages showing in Google’s main results?” I picked five links to the domain at random and they were all reciprocal links

it’s not that reciprocal links are automatically bad. It’s more that many reciprocal links exist for the wrong reasons.

So some of the worst things that has happened to the it industry is:
  • Simula (look for the information on OopSchool) was ignored or not understood by foreigners for 20 years. The founders of Simula would not like this point, I know. It is still one of the best (selfdocumenting) programs if you want to learn true OOP.
  • Forgive me Google, you are still my preferred SE workhorse and I see no real threat on the horizon: The Google (green toolbar)pagerank.
  • Foregive me Microsoft: IE 6.0. Ask a professional CSS designer, a professional JS developer and a security specialist.

I have a hidden agenda, so I hope there will not be a fourth point on this list in some years. The word starts with A and ends with e :-)

I got rid of my reciprocal links directory. I went up on Google, now that is probably coincedental considering the true affects may take a few months. I am not sure if they discount recp links or not but I am a believer it is a dieing tactic.

I think discounting is the correct word. They still count but not as much.

Exactly. I think what was really, really discounted were irrelevant links.
