Does anyone have an explanation for this.
My backlinks in google went from 5 one dayto 28 the next back to 5 for about 2 weeks, then back to 28 again for about 3 days, and finally its back home to 5 again. I haven't really made any changes. Maybe it has to do with the sites that link to me? Yahoo always shows a stable 40 or so. Any ideas? |

You are better than mine. Always yesterday the backlink number is 7, and today it will be 0, and then it will be 5. Can't understand it. But yahoo alway shows a number around 1000.

What you are seeing is results from different Google data centers. The information is not always the same on each datacenter. Each time you go to Google they randomly pick a data center to give you results from. While the data will usually propagate across all data centers with time, sometimes they have different data and that is what you are experiencing. Do a search for "check backlinks across Google data centers" or something similar and you will find tools that let you check backlink reports on each data center.

I read somewhere recently that stated that the poster had managed to track down something like 128 Google Data Centers (GDC). If you want to tabulate your own list of GDCs, post any search term to Google, and then do a search. When those results are posted, pull the cached results from any one of the links shown on that page. When you pull those "cached" results, you should be able to see the IP address of that GDC in your address bar. To find the next GDC, go back to the Google start page, and repeat your search. Then, follow the same guidelines as above, and record new IP addresses as you find them. In essence, when you go to the Google home page and you type in your search keywords and click Search, Google will first check the load levels on each GDC server. Then it will select the data center that is hosting the fewest number of requests in that instant. Once Google has decided which data center to send you to, it sends your search query to the data center that they had selected for you. While you might see the same IP addresses come up from time-to-time, your actual search query could actually be executed from any of the 100 plus GDCs.
