Default Supplemental index question.

I read a post by Adam Lasnik from Google in the Google Webmaster Help Group on the supplemental index. He said that the way to bring pages out of the supplemental index into the main index is to "Get more quality backlinks. This is a key way that our algorithms will view your pages as more valuable to retain in our main index".

If you have thousands of product pages from your site in the supplemental index how in practice to you get them all "...more quality backlinks"?

just a thought..

one way could be by creating internal links from pages with good page rank on your site. and one way of implementing this could be by creating a catalogue of the products with small descriptions which point to the pages with details..

OK. Then explain what would you do if you had the following scenario:

We have installed last April our SSL within the same directory as our standard pages.

Now we only have pages in the supplemental results starting with https:// which are for example our contact or enrollment pages in secure version.

We have setup beginning of October what we wrote in our tutorial here: http://www.seoworkers.com/seo-articl...and-https.html

We have submitted more times than one our sitemap, but those pages are still in the supplemental index.

Should I get backlinks to those pages. I guess that is a joke, or?

Can you tell why does it take so long to get out of there? Or better: Faster. How to get out of there at all?

It is about our site: http://www.webnauts.net/

Webnauts~

I only see four pages of your site in the SI:

https://www.webnauts.net/certificate.html I'm not sure what purpose this page plays in your site but with it's lack of content/focus and no outbound links (orphaned page) I'm really not surprised that it was relegated to the SI.

https://www.webnauts.net/check.html is exactly the same as http://www.webnauts.net/check.html and seems properly placed in the SI due to Google's duplicate content filter.

www.webnauts.net/test.html Did this appear in the SI after you implemented the 301 redirect? 301 means the page has "moved permanently". This page didn't move to your homepage and should be returning the 410 response "Gone".

The fourth is a pdf in a language foreign to me :)

William.

Not sure why their is a need for yet another SI thread. You can find more here:

Yes getting more backlinks to your inner pages is key. This is only natural to have links pointing to internal product/service pages from bloggers, website reviews, etc. I highly doubt Google is looking for a IBL to each of your inner pages, this would appear to be unnatural linking.

Sounds like you have two exact pages, One is a http:// and the other a https://. This is a good reason for suplimental. Google only wants to display one.

Choose the one you think is more important and get a few links to it, Likely it will come out of suplimental.

Google is making an effort to only display a page once, any other time it sees the same page they turn it into a suplimental. You can deside which one makes it to the main index by providing links to the one you feel if more important. Otherwise be sure you do not have two differrent links pointing to the same page.

I see you out of supplemental with cache from Dec. 24, 2006.
Have you made any changes in the meantime?
