Default Google Sitemap

I am submitting a .txt file in Google sitemap. Is this ok or it has to be in XML?

You can generate a sitemap.xml for Google, a urllist.txt for Yahoo and a sitemap.html for your website here for free:
http://www.xml-sitemaps.com/
The xml file can be edited in notepad.

I used a .txt file since they launched the program and it works fine.

I use .txt file too. Google recommends using xml as it gives an opportunity to add description and the time of the update for each of the links. However, txt site map works too.
