On this Veterans Day, 2006, I noticed Google's logo on its home page made no notice of it. Which was odd, I thought, considering how many minor days I have seen them observe. So I went to Google itself for the answer as to why.
I didn't find the answer as to why certain Holidays were omitted, such as Veterans Day and Memorial Day or any mention of September 11, 2001. However, they do mention the company's own birthday every September.
So, from Google, here is how it has listed the Holidays starting with 1999. Be sure to go through all of the years to see what they deem important. It's really a hoot:

I'm sure July 4th was with a great deal of reluctance. After all, they even mention Earth Day, but not Christmas. And so many wonder why your sites disappear from their SERPs around this time of year! We'll have to see wait to see what this holiday season brings this year.
By the way, I have been accused of hating Google. I don't hate Google, I'm just reporting on their hypocrisy.
