Default Googles New Landing Page Quality Guidlines

Google's quality rating system is a closely guarded secret, and that bothers me. The fact that a site's landing page quality rating is going to have a direct impact on its minimum bid price is a big deal.

Google doesn't offer much in the way of insight, however. I wonder what will happen the first time the landing page for a major company is classified as "low quality" -- I can't wait.

It's perhaps an unwarranted assumption, but I don't too readily perceive that a major brand site is going to ever have a low rated landing page. If it does, then it deserves whatever fate Google decides upon.
And I'm not sure that an "unacceptable" landing page is going to be anything other than what the visitor is NOT expecting -- or at least something that's very different from what the AdWord says he/she is going to find.
Sure, some searchers are going to be disappointed, but this isn't quite the same, is it?
Ergo, dare I say that your concern is more academic than justified?!!

Perhaps. But I feel that if you're going to leave the task of rating a landing page's quality up to an algorithm, you should be very clear about the types of things that algorithm looks for in its evaluation.

I don't expect Google to be perfect, just forthcoming.

My understanding is that they look for things that would make it a real site.

1. Contact Information

2. Privacy Policy

3. Content

4. Out Going Links

Do you also mean P3P?

I brought up this issue with a thread here http://www.webproworld.com/viewtopic.php?p=313078 but the thread went too soon to bed. :)

I am just wondering...

Their "quality" system is simple. They promote Ebay and a few others and that's it! I think they've gone a bit too far though as they are allowing bidding by them on others domains and they may have fallen foul of the Department for Homeland Security by allowing Ebay to advertise "Plutonium". I also think the US Food & Drug Administration may have to say something about the promotion of "Amphetamines".

Google permit both by Ebay.
