Default Slowly Slipping to The 2nd and 3rd Page of SERPS

Hi,
My site www.safetyenforcement.com has slowly been losing ground in the Google Serps in the past 6 months. I can't begin to explain why. I used to be in the top 5 results for my keyword searches but have slid down the page. A few are still at the top - but the remainder keep slipping and sliding away. I was told I had PR5 but my toolbar says PR4. Not sure if there's an effect there? I have sent links from my related blog to these sections to help in my product review and hopefully help them advance - but they're not. (PR4 blog)

I've got thick skin so fire away plz!

Hi cz

Nice site, lots of content.

One thought that springs to mind while reading: do you/someone else update the website on a regular basis or is it the same old content? I get the impression its the latter.

If your site has been left to stagnate for a while, this could explain why you are falling out of favour with the SE's.

Thats not the be all and end all but thats just the first impression that I get.

HTH and I look forward to hearing your views.

Hello and thanks dharrison!

I change title and description tags avery couple of months on sections that are doing poorly.

I have added a small article section for extra content.

As far as changing the text of the actual "on page" areas such as sections and items (goods for sale) - they are still the same - several pages have been changed - to reflect keywords in the "off page" tags - but not very much (nothing major). Maybe 1/4 has been changed in the past few years.

You may be on to the problem - thank you for your reply!

I cannot see how changing just the description and title tags would help.

Just a thought: How about a featured items section on the first page? Or offers etc, the list is endless.

As for the small articles section: this could include product reviews, your thoughts and comments about recent devlopments in self-defence how it can affect the consumer.

What about your competitors? What changes do they make to their site and how often?

I hope this helps. And as for the lack of reply, I have moved this topic to the Google forum as that was the original question. This should attract more replies.

1. Do you know the long tail of SEO?

2. Go to the WPW video blog and listen to the following two videos.
  • The Science of SEO.
  • Title Tag Tips.

The structure of your site is good and the title tag on the subpages seems good, but is it possible to do it better? Listen to Mike's "Titile Tag Tips". There are some fine points there.

How is it possible to relate it to content on the site (multiple pages)?

Have you analyzed the pages that pass you? Ar they using AdWords to increase visibility? Do they have blogs on the sites?

What about IBL's with good anchor text from realted sites?

Where is your clients, globally or locally? If locally concentrate on getting IBL's from your local websites / portals in the right cathegory.

Thank you dharrison and kgun,
Your suggestions have given me a LOT to think about as I work on this site now. There sure was a lot of info in the two video links you provided kgun.

I've made a copy of the things I believe I can implement and experiment with.

Thanks a lot for the comprehensive review!
