Default Google May Go To Still More Colleges

Two schools, Georgetown University and George Washington University, are considering adopting Google Apps for Education. Read more here.

Default really?

If this is possible, can any other university could get the same opportunity for their education developments? is there a way they can get this done?

Yes, i.e. MacIntosh. Then consider the overwhelming popularity of Macs in academia (and publishing) while the other 92% of the world and 100% of businesses depend upon PCs.

Google APIs are not proprietary, special or unique. They do not represent a long-term solution in education . Likewise, Bill Gates is the first to admit that the Web is not a replacement for books.

Education is better served by wise teaching instead of avant-garde gimmicks and entertainment.

Of course Bill Gates says that. The web is going to destroy his company. The more applications move online the less they need his operating system.

Default Huh?

Stymiee: I'd have to disagree with you there, while many of us rely or feel that the world will rely on web apps, on a very minor amount of the population actually uses them.

The vast majority of the world uses software, and there is a group that has barely gotten onto the internet, let alone into web based solutions.

Books, Newspapers, Magazines, Software, PC's all of those items are not going anywhere, anytime soon. Many of us live and breathe this stuff while not realizing that the majority of the world doesn't even fathom using the internet for anything more than searching for stuff and sending email.

That's today. A few years ago virtually no one used online apps for productivity or learning. In a few years that number will grow substantially as there is clearly a push in that direction. The desktop is becoming obsolete and it's no big secret. It's only a matter of time.
