There's nothing you can do until an editor for that category reviews it and adds it. You can try to ask about it at resource-zone.com but don't expect it to help any. That's just part of how DMOZ works. We're all in the same boat.

No worry :)
Dmoz has lost its value and weight since when you submitted. Now more people talk about DMOZ Corruption than DMOZ listing. And remember now it has become sumbit only directory means submit and don't hope to get listed.
Its PR has also dropped to PR8 http://www.digpagerank.com/?url=www.dmoz.org

though its still good PR but it will fall more in next updates (i wish).

If you submitted by category TWO years ago, then try submitting by local geography. You may have a different editor view your site. it's worth the try.

Yeah that's right... You may try regional categories to submit so that you an editor may review it. If you are not sure your website falls in the category which you submitted 2 yrs ago, try to submit it once again the category that suits best. This is the least and best we can do for now i guiess.

I guess the only way to get listed is to become an editor, but this is not the best way of managing the public directory.

It really is sad. I've been submitting for a little over a year. Well, twice.

Odd thing... I know my site/blog is worthy of a listing and both times I've submitted, I have noticed a visit from the DMOZ editor url in my stats.

Rumor has it and I've read it on their forums as well that there are a few that were accepting bribes and or charging to get listed. Once they are found out, they get removed as editors.

I'm not even going there with that. I'm not paying some cheating scumbag off the street to list me in a directory that is going down hill fast.

Google would do well to just drop the directory. IMHO

After reading Here at webproworld, I have come to the conclusion that it is quite possible there is someone editing the category I wish to be placed in that has a site of his/her own there already and may be trashing my applications. After all, there are not that many listed in my chosen category as is. Could be a possibility.

Its more than a possibility. You think the corruption is bad where you are, try if you even smell of bring "Adult" or "XXX". DMOZ will fall of is own stagnation.

And now back to your regularly scheduled programming!

:)

I'm of the opinion that submit the site to DMOZ and forget it. In a span of 2 yrs, i think one can get into a good position even without the help of DMOZ. Am i wrong ?

Personally, I think a sites' chances of getting into the DMOZ are better if you work on other means of ranking your site higher. Make it more visible.

I've read too often that many editors prefer not looking at submitted sites, for they feel it's a waste of their time. They feel their time is better spent finding sites on their own.

This being said, after 2 years I'd follow the advice already given and resubmit to a regional category.

DMOZ is a great resource but they are only human and editors tend to get a little emotional at times. I have a good honest site that for some reason was placed in the wrong area. I was a little too eager and had a spat in the DMOZ forum about it. To this day nothing I do can get my site listed in there, it is pretty much banned and I am sure when I submit it editors look and say, "nope sorry" cuz it is in the box for bad behavior.

That is my only complaint with DMOZ, they should not let emotion get the better of them but like I said, they are human so I can not fault them.

As for fixing this flaw, well I got my ideas and am building a few directories to test my theories out, there has to be a better way.

If you are in great!

If you are not just try to forget about it and do not waste your time going up against them. It will not work believe me.

If you are not in because they can not find a proper category, work harder to better present your site in an understandable way.

If you are not in because your site is low quality fix it and submit it again with a little note (dmoz could use a reinclusion request, a simple fix and great way to lesson the anger and negative press.)

On a positive note, one of my sites was voted in to DMOZ and that was amazing, I didn't even submit it but someone loved me, they REALLY did! :)

Note: DMOZ is now called ODP did anyone notice the change in brand? With a new change in brand should come improved service, please consider a reinclusion request ODP.

Thank You!

Is there a better free human edited directory of comparable size, than dmoz?

Yahoo's directory and it's bigger. Unless your site is loved by the right person (And I did manage to get 1 free listing in there.) You'll pay $300 a year for that one.
