Default where to get a good sitemap generator

- I've used a sitemap generator by George Petrov as an extension for Dreamweaver. But it doesn't generate a <changefreq> tag and it only generates a single sitemap for Google's use.

- Then, I tried Gmapper by db net solutions. It generates several types of sitemaps (Atom, RSS, .txt, and google specific RSS), but it has tons of bugs and isn't working too well.

Anybody know of a good, free sitemap generator that is 1) reliable and 2) will generate several types of sitemaps that I can submit to other engines as well?

AutoMapIt can do all of this and covers websites up to 500 pages for free. Auto-pings Google, Yahoo, and others when your maps are uploaded. Covers Google, HTML, RSS, ROR and more for sitemap formats. Lots of available filters and tweaks to get clean sitemaps. Best of all is that it will run your maps and keep them updated versus needing to start a program or to remember to upload them.

Thanks MaxPowers - I'll check it out. You've probably heard this before, but did you change your name from Homer Simpson?

I have used SoftPlus GSiteCrawler with great results, it is free and will do XML, HTML, text, and robots.text files among others. I have had no problems with this program and feel good about recommending it to you.

Check out SoftPlus GSiteCrawler at http://gsitecrawler.com/ . It's an XML sitemap generator. I've used it on all of my web sites, without any problems.

Default Sitemap software

Gcrawler is good, but you have to enter your prioroties for google and save a separate copy without the priorities for other bots.
I just switched to http://www.rorweb.com/rormap.htm that creates a sitemap in xml that you can name sitemap.xml or ror.xml and put a meta tag on your site that tells ALL bots about the existance of this site map. It comes in 2 free versions a web service that will do upto 1000 URLs and a downloadable windows version that will do upto 5000 URLs.
So far this seems to work for my web site.

You can also try http://www.xml-sitemaps.com/

I recently updated my site maps with this and Google approved it when I loaded it into Google Sitemaps.

I agree. I use that too. Excellent tool.

Do you guys use the Live Data tool that they have on freesitemapgenerator.com? If so, do you find that this helps you out more?

I would consider a more generic model XML Sitemap such as ROR, built for all Search Engines:

I have just started to use the Live Data tool. The <priority> tags are not the best that they can be but they are not bad. They will get better with more data according to the website. I have noticed that I get better than "normal" priority when generating site maps. So this is a bonus.

Default Diadematus

this is a free tool, which works easily but there is one caveat with its output, so a global edit is necessary. See http://improveseo.com/Organic_Search...O.html#SiteMap for information on that caveat.

You can try this one www.hkhangfong.com/service.htm , which can make a standard sitemap file for almost all major search engines, including google.
