Default HTTP vs HTTPS

Hi Friends,

Recently we optimized a site which is developed in mambo. The site home page is http://www.sitename.com/index.php, now we are forced to shift the site to https version.

Currently the home page is starting with https://www.sitename.com/index.php, the inner pages are in php.

While submitting the site to Google sitemaps, we are getting 200 server authentication error,as the site is a secured one.

Now my question is, Will Google crawl HTTPS sites same as HTTP sites?

Will it treat the site as two versions?

How to over come this? Suggestions please.

Thanks in advance,
Amar

Why did you have to put the whole site in ssl ?
Doesn't make too much sense.

G will crawl and list the pages in the SERPs as long as the pages do not require authentication (login, username,pw type info) to get to a page. Any pages that DO require a user to input information to get to the next page will not be crawled.

Make sure that the site has a valid and properly functioning certificate also. An invalid certificate could be a barrier to having https pages crawled within your site.

I also recommend following the google guidelines in the site development: http://www.google.com/support/webmas...y?answer=35769

Not all search engines and directories are able to crawl https pages. I would highly recommend that you have the majority of your information pages in the site remain in non-encrypted (http) format. In the long run it will be beneficial for your rankings.
