Don't panic, (use any promotion) and you could, may get back your listing.. but this could take some time, (3-6 month).

If you don't link to Bad Neighbourhood and you haven't been checking PR a lot, (except via looking at PR on the Google Toolbar) then I dont' know, sorry

It may be a Temporary glitch with Google Page Rank.

Blogs can be subject to spam, Splog. Splogging and this can cause some issues.

I'm certain that my site has not be banned or penalized for I have full confidence that I've followed most, if not all, of the webmaster guidelines set by Google and ever since have been conservative in the way I optimize my site.

However, after a month of monitoring the keywords that I normally rank, I still see drastic ranking fluctuations on Google SERP. One or two days I'm ranking below that I normally rank then the next day the keywords are back to their normal state then out again. The vicious cycle continues.

G never gave accurate IBL's from their search page. You have to check it Y. Enter your URL there and it should redirect to their Site Explorer.

A while back you could get IBL's in G's WMT console (Webmaster Tools area), but recently they screwed that area up, no surprise! They screwed several things up with their new layout of the area! Now for IBL's, mine has gone from thousands, to, 79!!!! No one can ever convince me they "discounted" that many links! That would give people a PR of 0! They delete countless billions of pages from their index on a regular basis, so even if they deleted all those thousands of other IBL sites, the PR would have gone to zero.

Hurrah for having keywords rank back again at Google organic! Have a peace of mind right now after a month or two of crazy algorithm dancing and fluctuating. Would still continue to regularly monitor though. This good thing happening right now might be temporary or just another part of the dance. Huhu.

I posted something similar to that when I saw the problem in my WMT area. It's another bug, it can't be "fixed". The only way I know of is to remove the 301 redirect on your domain so the Gbot can hit on the non-www version and "verify" that (or the opposite if you have a 301 from www to non-www). It's stupid and doesn't make any sense, but that's the only way.

Yes, it is hard. The only way to increase PR is IBL's (in-bound links). Therefore if not enough site owners have the need to link to your webpages, you're screwed in G ("G" is google). Since you you say you're a beginner, a few parts of this recent post should tell you few things to consider.

Sure, it can. If not enough site owners have the need to link to one of your rare/unusual/unique info/rarer niche pages, it is therefore deemed "unworthy" in the evil eyes of G and you can be penalized for it by it not showing in any search results--only to have it finally appear somewhere in the SERP's after only going to the last page of the results and clicking that "Some search results have been omitted....." link. (i.e. Supplemental index). Now while most SE's may do that from time to time (for dupe content or less relevant pages), G will do it simply because of low or no PR with total disregard to relevancy of one's search query.

It's not necessarily the "popularity", because the reasons people link to a page varies. So it doesn't explicitly tell us about the "popularity", it simply only tells us the amount of IBL's.

I think my website is being affected by the Google update right now and not affected in a good way either as it is fluctuating. At times when I type in a keyword phrase my site is on page 1 but occasionally it doesn't appear at all for the same keyword phrase. Is anyone else experiencing this? My enquiries are down and things are looking pretty bleak.

The Caffeine rollout to one Google datacentre may take until after the holidays. I take it that is Christmas holidays. Does that mean things wont settle down until after Christmas?

The fluctuations really can be for any manner of reasons, even if it is goolge updating the algorithm, or competition building links etc, the main thing you can do is continue to optimise and build links to your site.
Everyone goes through fluctuations at some point, personally when it happens to me I concentrate on link building, try not to touch my site too much and wait for the rankings to setle down, which they will do. my reason for this is if i change anything on the site i want to be sure of what effect that has on the rankings rather than just google doing a dance.

The exact same thing (actually, similar), is happening to me and I was about start a thread on it. A couple of months or so back I created an important webpage and less than a week later it was #3 on the first page of results (for over 140 million results). Days later, the jerks "saw fit" to delete it from the index, where it stayed deleted for about 1-2 months. Yesterday it showed up again......then gone.....then back, then gone, etc. This was changing every few SECONDS. Their IP was NOT changing at the time, so I don't think it was a "DC thing". More so, because: when I went to the advanced search page and chose 100 results per page, my page was SECOND. But when I chose 10 results per page, GONE!! But if I keep the results page open and search again with 10 results per page, it's #2 again! This makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Again, to clarify: Search using 10 results per page and the page is not found in the index! Search using 100 results per page, and it's #2!!

This is when they delete the small sales business websites from the index so the "big guys" will have all the holiday business. Mid-end of Jan., the pages are all back in the index. You'd have to be brain dead to not realize what their goal is. I don't know if you're new to this, or if you noticed it before, but if you are new, and you sell goods, be prepared to have zero sales because it may also happen to you. That's probably what's happening with what you're seeing and what I described in my first paragraph. "It's just that time of the year" when G schitts upon small businesses......even more than they regularly do.

I am a bit of a newbie at this, although I have dabbled in it for a while and didn't do too bad in getting my site to the first page of Google results (in my opinion anyways). I have noticed in previous years that business slows down a bit in October but never to this extent. I've only just found out today that Google does their thing starting in Oct. each year so I guess that could be the reason why business slows down.

As for the search results it is really weird as you say, open one browser and do a search and then another and do the same search with completely different results. Very frustrating!!

Oops, I've just redone my whole website (hours and hours of coding - brain drain), but thanks for the advice, sounds sensible. I'll keep plodding away at the link building and see what happens in the next couple of months.
