Google ranking changed 5 times in last 72 hours

Hi,

After almost a year in second spot on Google for the phrase "full game downloads", the ranking listing for
top100gamesites.com dropped to 6th last March, and has pretty much stayed around this rank. Tried to re-optimized site, but without any real successes. Haven't touched site in last 2 months. On Tuesday(May 16) of this week, I noticed a huge surge in traffic to our game site. Checking Google, to my surprise, there was our game site in top spot for "full game downloads". By Wednesday morning, site had dropped to 4th, and in that evening to 7th. Thursday afternoon it was back in fourth, and this morning (Friday), it was back in 7th ranking spot. Other keyword phrase("game sites","free pc games",etc)also changed ranking positions accordingly. Any thoughts on this anomaly? Thanks.

This is very normal. Google has different datacenters that will show your website ranking at different positions at the same time.

Matt Cutts has even said they test multiple algo's across different datacenters at the same time which would cause even greater fluctuations.
