Please help me figure this one out. I'm at a loss...
My client's site - www.americanconferencecenter.com - has long been on the top of the natural search for their name, american conference center (and centers). Today, they can't find their site listed from their computers in New York. But I've seen it myself in Colorado, plus other people in Los Angeles, New Jersey and Romania view it each time they look it up. I don't understand why their site would not display locally? It is a New York business, has been around for aeons and has been on the Internet for a long time. He routinely runs AdWords. And he's frequently looked up his company name in G., happily noting his #1 placement each time. Can 1 server return bad results? Or skip his domain? I don't know what to tell him. If someone who reads this is in New York, would you be a doll and do a G. search on american conference center to see if it comes up for you? Thanks for any and all advice. I got the "cranky client" call this morning asking me what the ($*% I did to his Google position, and I am pretty darned sure I'm not the culprit. But I am clueless for how to explain this. Thanks again.

You're my hero!
Now, please tell me what a DC is? (big hug going your way)

Each time you do a search, which ever DC is the default or live one is queried. Since Google updates its SERP's (rankings) on a continual basis, it's rare that all DC's return exactly the same result. Dave |

Guess I can go home now, I've learned something useful today :-)
Thanks for the fast replies, CD - you really did save my rear. Cheers!

I think the site you're referring to is:
http://www.mcdar.net/dance/index.php I've spent many bored minutes checking "guitar chords" and watch my site PJs Guitar Chords and Lyrics roller coast on the 'Big G' - beware, it's addictive! On a similar vein, I would appreciate if anyone could search on google.com ( not a country-specific version ) for: guitar chords , and let me know if there are 3 Google Image links at the top of the SERPS. I first noticed this from my own PC, but then they disappeared - now when I check from work (shhh!) the image sites are ( unfairly, IMHO ) getting the cream, while they don't appear on my PC, half a mile away! I'd appreciate a 'heads up' from a kind contributor. If most searchers are seeing these, it effectively pushes me 3 places down the ranks. Many thanks! PJ

Funny, this is the first time I've seen image results when I've done a search. Your site is next to last on the first page. I don't know how a guitarist might search, but I would have ignored the images and looked only at the text results to see if a site has what I want, if that's of any comfort to you :-) I've just spent the last hour or so poking around on the mcdar site and "vaughn's 1-page" - I'd like some advice on how to make use of the info, please. - when I see the IP for a DC that does not list a url I'm looking for, how do I find out where that DC is? I'd like to see if I can figure out why my url shows up on most DCs but not all. Thanks - this was a great find today :-)

All this doesn't bode well for us in Europe - where true local search has yet to take off - especially with Google being sited as the #1 SE !
I guess we'll have to see what MS and Yahoo come up with!

writergrrrl48,
I haven't been around in a while. I took notice of your post and reviewed your code. I can't believe no one else pointed this out yet. Your "Title" is extremely important to all SEs including GOOGLE and should be brief, and to the point. The page description is also important and should be a little longer, describing the page. Your Title and "Description" are both way overstuffed and most certainly seem spammy to the SEs, as well as not offering them logical or geographical direction for the Site. IMO - Your primary issues have absolutely nothing to do with "Data Centers". Ken |
