Unseen links

Why is it that I have many links from high ranking sites PR4 - PR8 but Google doesn't see them. This has only happened since the change in algorithims recently and therefore my page rank has dropped from 4 to 3. We do rank number 1 for many search terms we feel are important though.

How are you determining that "Google doesn't see them"? i.e., what is your search string syntax for determining this? Google doesn't report all the links they see and it seems that lately they are reporting fewer than they used to...

I search with

link:http://www.phuket-saltwater-dreaming....com/index.htm

The last search I did showed double last time which is 4, but I know that there are at least 20 high ranking pages that link to us. Before the Florida Algorithim changes the same search would show up to 25 very relevant links.

Try being a bit less specific, i.e., using just www.phuket-saltwater-dreaming.netfirms.com in your search string.

However, even at that using link:www.phuket-saltwater-dreaming.netfirms.com will show you only a small sample of what Google knows about backlinks to your site.

allinurl:www.phuket-saltwater-dreaming.netfirms.com shows about 199 links to your site

+"www.phuket-saltwater-dreaming.netfirms.com" shows aboput 219

And I would note that even those are probably not ALL the links to your site that Google knows about.

Google doesn't display all the search terms it knows about with the link: command, it only displays those above a certain TPR level, and if you have lots of links may choose not to display all of those.

If you need to see all the external links to your site you could use a search term like "www.phuket-saltwater-dreaming.netfirms.com" -site:www.phuket-saltwater-dreaming.netfirms.com which shows 17 external pages that probably link to your site, but there may bemany more since I am of the opinion that this search may not show anchor text links to your site.

You can often get a better indication of how many pages link to your site by going to Alltheweb and inputting your URL into the search bar, when the results come back you should see your home page URL with four options below it, choosing the find all external pages that link to...

For your URL this shows 16 pages which is one less than Google is showing.
