About 6 or so months ago, I recall reading an article about Google's PR which stated that Google was placing less importance on PR in terms of where a site is ranked in the SERPs. This particular article had a quote in it from a Google guy who stated, apparently rather suprisingly, at some convention that he was surprised that so many people were placing such importance on a feature that was intended merely for amusement...or something to that nature. Can anyone recall this article and point me to it?
Thanks, Kim |

I believe he did day something along those lines, although I can't point you to where he said it.
But don't misunderstand what he said. PageRank is used for rankings, and always was. It isn't anywhere near as important as some other factors, but don't think it isn't used - it is. Having said that, don't be concerned with it either. Do the important things (inbound links with targeted link texts) and the PageRank will take care of itself. |

Here is a post I found on it.

Here's a search engine thread regarding the quote, although it looks rather flakey. http://forums.searchenginewatch.com/...ead.php?t=3054
This might be of interest too.. http://www.thuk.co.uk/blog/2006/04/1...put-it-to-bed/ |

A great way to get a grip on the effect of PR in SERPs is to use this tool www.webmastereyes.com/ and enter a Google search URL instead of a normal site - it will list all the results with a little green bar beside each listing, and then of course analyse each result for on-page factors and IBLs.
A wee bit off-topic, but it has come in mighty handy. Take care

Interesting tool, but I have a clients site. ruggedlaptops.us that has a PR of 5, but doesn't come close to top 10's for the keyword phrase, yup you guessed it, rugged laptops.
So the world is still a fun place and PR means jack. Or does it, or doesn't it, or PR means, "Pretty Resource" or "PRetty Awful Green Bar", or maybe, just maybe, PageRank is simply a wonderful "PR" tool to get more and more conversations going for Google and improve their rankings in other search engines. Maybe it's all a secret trick to rule the world! Ha ha ha ha ha!!!! *Smacks self in face* Okay, back to reality. Isn't this fun folks?
