I submitted hti site to google as suggested after the frame work was up and the navigation was setup. It has been three months and I still can't get the site to come up in Google when checking; site:pizzigatiprize.org/
or when I just enter this http://www.pizzigatiprize.org/. returns include the mentions is press releases from the parent organization. I have been doing this for about 5 years now and I have not had this issue before. Any help on why the site is nowhere in the index after doing a manual submission is greatly appreciated. Site is built with Joomla. We changed the domain from dot com while under construction to dot org after soft launch about 2 weeks ago.

Submitting to Google rarely does much good. The best way to get a new site indexed is just to get some good inbound links from other quality sites. If you have some other sites with decent PR, put up some links to the Pizzigati site and it will be indexed shortly.
Yahoo shows almost all inbound links it knows about for a site and they are only showing one when you search for link:http://www.pizzigatiprize.org/. Good luck! |

Thanx. I think part of the problem is with Joomla or something related. I say this because after creating and submitting sitemaps to G sitemaps, when attempting to verify I get this error from G:
" Verification status: NOT VERIFIED We've detected that your 404 (file not found) error page returns a status of 200 in the heade" What in the world is going on here?!!

It's been a while since I've messed with Google's Sitemaps, and I've played with Mambo, but it's been a couple of years, too. However, it sounds like Google wants your site to return a 404 when when a page that doesn't exist is visited. On yours, if you go to http://www.pizzigatiprize.org/ghjgfhj/gfkjjhj , you simply see the home page. The reason Google needs this is because they verify the site is yours by having you place a blank page at the url they specify, then they attempt to go to that page and look for a 200. If they know they'll get a 200 on any page they look for, there's no way you can prove the site is yours using their method.
You may already know that, I'm just writing it for the poor folks that come after us with the same problem. I'd suggest looking in your htaccess to see if you can find the code that forwards requests that should result in a 404 to your home page (I assume it would be at least partially in htaccess). I did a quick Google search for "joomla google sitemap" and found what look like some decent places to find out more. Someone may have created a joomla/Google Sitemaps module. Good luck! |
