How does google rank/index Ranking sites?

I'm curious as to how Google indexes sites using ranking software... example: top100gamesites.com.
Are we penalized because of the concept or do the spiders not have a problem indexing these sites?

I am also curious about this. I run a site that indexes stock photography agencies and has a new rnaking system. I have yet to see the PageRank pop up, but I hope it is o.k.

As far as I am aware, automated ranking software is denounced by major search engines because if used by everyone, their servers would overload.

Also if the said search engine detects you've been using automated queries, chances are your IP Address will be blocked from this search engine temporarily.

Having said that, I use Web CEO's rank checker as it emulates human behaviour and you can adjust it to suit your preferences, (eg to take longer between each query). It does take longer than your standard automated software but thats a very small price to pay.
