Default Moving a site

My 301 has been up for more than a week, MSN and Yahoo results show the new location while Google continues to show the old site, which ranks well in SERPS, despite the 301. Google indexed but does not rank the new location. All links now point to the new location. None point to the old location.

There has been mention in this forum of creating an xml site map for a site that no longer exists, to kill off an old domain, but no one has explained how to do this. I of course have a Google sitemap on file for the new location.

Sand box is not an issue, as the site was moved to a sub domain of an established site.

There is nothing to do, just to wait the next Google dance. Setting the 301 is perfect (each visitor is correctly redirected?). No rank is normal. For Google, this is new content on another website. Be patient.

Jacob,

You need to install some 404 error page handling to catch the "fallout".

It's just not happening right now:

Uh, there is no Google dance anymore. Give it some more time, though.

Default Thanks Ken

Ken, your idea (like all your ideas) worked perfectly. You and CBP have greatly educated me about this business. WPW is like a free university. I made the transition from advertising agency owner to SEO in 2 years, thanks to WPW.

Default Cancelled old site

All search engines have now indexed the new pages, and ranked them very well, so I removed the 301 and sent the old domain to page not found.
