Default If DMOZ is so important, why are they not on the first page

Maybe I do not understand the relevance of DMOZ in the whole search process on the Internet, specifically in relation to Googlizzle.

My very specific question is the importance of DMOZ as it relates to its own placement on Googlizzle.

Here was my test. I took everyone’s advice on the http://66.102.9.104/ data center as this is the main (?) rollout for the "Mick and the Boys" Effect.

One of my terms is body jewelry. On the main Gogglizzle site I am 93 today but was 53 yesterday. Go figure! So I mosey, or maybe tango over to the 66.102 data center and say to myself, "self, try the top word for your industry and see where you rank."

I get to page two and there is dmoz.org/Shopping/Jewelry/Body/Piercing, ranked 24.

So I say again to myself, "self, step away from the weapon." (I like to keep myself honest.) "Self" I say, "DMOZizzles main focus is an optimized pages either by course or by the fact that the words on the page are tailored to the topic. And here is the title tag: <title>Open Directory - Shopping: Jewelry: Body: Piercing</title>. And further this page has only a PR4"

So I ponder. Do they help other pages and not themselves or themselves AND other pages (sites)?

After another Martini or 7, I might be able to figure an answer... But most assuredly not the right answer.

This is not bashing the green monster, just, I believe, coming to the realization that maybe, just maybe, it is not necessarily important to be part of them. Or, maybe it is as many of the top 23 are in fact on DMOZizlle. A correlation or just happen-stance?

Interesting! Suggestions and comments welcome.

Michael

PS, if you cannot dazzle them with brilliance, make 'em laugh!

not sure exactly what your question is. are you talking about rankings in dmoz or in google? dmoz is straight alphabetical, google is algorhymical (is that a word?).

I'm with Keith - no idea what you are asking/stating

If I undertand some of what you are saying is why would Google want to rank a DMOZ page high anyway???

Default DMOZ - stick with it

I'd still stick with DMOZ. Given that its hand edited and that a site can only enter one category, it brings great credibility.

Don't forget you also get the benefit of inclusion in the results of all the meta search engines.

I am sorry for being so vague.

Why does that DMOZ category rank on google at 24? I would think that it is so optimized with IB and OBL and the page itself is maxed with keywords it cannot help but be ranked #1 on google, or at least in the first page.

The pages are not optimized at all - they are the way they are, with no attention given to search engines at all.

I am going to interject my friendly reminder pointing to a "sticky" that conveys WPW policy on DMOZ threads at this point:

Smile :)

That's a grewat resource!

Search for Body Piercing in google to come up with a DMOZ listing

Open Directory - Shopping: Jewelry: Body: Piercing
Alphasylum Body Piercing Jewelry - Varied selection of tusks, barbells, ... Anatometal - Hand-polished, implant grade body jewelry and piercing tools. ...
dmoz.org/Shopping/Jewelry/Body/Piercing/

* ranking at a whopping #77
* 1 backlink in google
* Keyword density of 0.77%
(considering it should be around 4% to 7% . 0.77% is very low and next to non-existent

Google doesn't find a good match until the 6th listing in the DMOZ list.
The top of the page having "Open Directory - Shopping: Jewelry: Body: Piercing" doesn't work evidently with the colon(:) in there. Ofcourse this would have been the perfect spot for the words together. It also has the colon in the title the same way.

There is html code starting before the <html> tag even starts. I can't say that's very good to start a page with and very odd. That's if you believe a search engine looks at good code, which I dont.

There are no meta tags at all for keywords or description. Not even a repeat of the title, which would have been a good idea in the lamest of ways to code a page using a scripted page.

So I would be in total agreement with CBP.
