Default Google results help?

Hi, I'm reading around thiese topics with interest and trying to make as much sense from it all as I can.

http://www.bearbackbiking.com

My site has been up for a while now (12 months) and it has a varying Google PR between 2 and 3. The front page was just an image for a long time before I became aware that that wasnt perhaps the best way to go.

Anyhow, the sites content is all relevant and is doing well with Yahoo, Ask, About, MSn etc and comes in top of the meta-search engines (dogpile and clusty) for Whistler mountain biking holidays.. which is awesome considering that its only been up for 12 months.
However, the problem is still google! I dont get any search results from google on these meta searches. Why is this?

I only get direct search results from google when I include obscure things like 'bear back'

Its driving me a little nuts.. and i'm keen to get it sorted.

If I look at ticket2ridebc.com, who are a google ad word site and rank #1 in most searches for biking holidays, their keyword list is huge with many of them repeated lots of times. Is this good for google? or do ad-words overcome all?

I'd really appreciate any help you may be able to throw on this subject

A frustrated Jonny

WELCOME TO WPW

Google puts more emphasis on the anchor text in backlinks than do Yahoo and MSN. If you want to rank better in G for your terms, you just need more links with those terms as the anchor text.

Jonny,
It looks like you've only got three sites linking back to you in google. Now while this may be higher its an indication of how many links google sees pointing to your site. My suggestion would be to try some viral/gurrella marketing. Spend an hour or two in some travel and biking forums sharing your knowledge and answering questions. You don't really need to mention your site, just be sure to place a keyword sensitive link in your signature. Not only will you get some more traffic from visitors in the forums you'll get more links showing up in Google. Try to write some articles and have them posted on related sites with a link to your site/you as the author. And you can always pay for results too. You can purchase adwords or you can buy links on related sites. All of these methods should help boost your site within google and the other search engines.

Oh and repeating keywords will not help you at all and can often hurt you. So I wouldn't recommend this as a solution.

Enjoy,
NV

I have been following the valid content on relevent forums direction. I post fairly frequently on a few bike forums.. as you say, all with links pointing to the site.

We spent a great deal of time placing links on significant bike related sites and a number of travel sites too... for some reason these ar not being oicked up by google. I assume its because the page owners are not indexing their own sites perhaps?
I must say though that it didn't occur to me to use different terms for each of the anchor texts when submitting links. Definately something to look at.

Writing articles is a great idea and something that I have been meaning to get around to.

Many thanks for those pointers - much appreciated!

Jonny

Default Start with your own site.

Start with your own site. From the other pages on your site, the alt text of the Whistler link is "About Whistler". This doesn't tell Google that the page is about "Whistler mountain biking holidays". Also, from the homepage the link says "Whistler Resort". Again, nothing about mountain biking holidays. Just making those changes could help out some, but then you need someone else voting for your page too. Having your other forum signatures and incoming links saying "Whistler mountain biking holidays" and variations of that (vacations, off-road biking, trail riding, etc.) will help out a ton.

Links, links, links - but target them carefully and properly - and you'll be sitting just great.

Brian.
