Question about broken links: we recently started a new site which is www.hallclosetuniforms.com. Our old site has a lot of broken links like this one: www.hallclosetuniforms.com/about.htm. Would those be negatively affecting my new site? Can I get rid of them or do I just have to wait for them to drop on their own? Thanks for your help.

A broken link is like a brick wall at the end of a road. The robot will crash with nowhere to go, so yes it's bad and you should set up a 301 redirect to the new page

That makes sense. We already shut the old site down so we can't set up a redirect, so I guess we have to wait until Google drops them? Is there anything else that can be done? Do you think Google would penalize us for having broken links connected to our site?

Maybe I am missing something or just confused. What do you mean you shut the old site down? The links you provided go to the same domain for the OLD site as the NEW site. If you are referring to pages which have been taken down do a 301, you should always do a 301. If it is another domain which no longer exists then Google will remove the links generally after 30 days. Or you can create an account with Google and remove the URL's.
