Hi Image,

A client of mine has an osCommerce shop protected by 128bit SSL and the products within that shop are listed on many SE's, so I guess the answer to your question is yes - they are listed.

I'd have to question if those product pages are actually SSL. If so, why? That's just increasing the server's workload for no reason.

Unless someone is passing personal info, there isn't any reason for that particular page to be SSL. Products aren't normally personal, and thus don't need SSL. Checkout pages are personal, and should be SSL.

As for if they do or not, yes. Google, Yahoo, and MSN all spider and rank secure pages just fine.

Brian.

Pages that are only accessed after a login are not indexed. The search engines generally won't have a login and password, so they won't crawl those pages.

However, there are two reasons why you would want to add title tags and meta description tags to your pages:
1 - Usability. It allows your users to quickly see what the page is about. Users DO look at title tags.
2 - Internal searches. If you're using something to allow your pages to be searched then you'll want to use titles and meta tags to help your internal search engine index the proper pages.

bhartzer brings up VERY valid points - your site should be built with the user/visitors in mind. That being said, why would you not put in any necessary, relevant elements that would facilitate the very things he pointed out: usability and site searches.

Whether or not the pages are SSL, as brian.mark pointed out (https), if they require a login to access, they will not be indexed.
