Page rank 0 in google toolbar and 3 in google directory

Can you tell me which one is true ?.

If in doubt, I tend to go with the directory as it gets updated more often than the toolbar's PR meter. The actual answer is neither, as any publicly accessible data is outdated. They keep the TRUE PR locked in some vault in Mountain View.

PR is like "Stock quotes delayed at least 20 minutes" - "PR values delayed at least 3 weeks".

The Google Directory is often a good indication of coming Page Rank (on the green bar) because, as Brian said, it is updated before the green bar.

the green indicator for my and other sites dances. It is so unstable that, I at last find no value in it. May be that is OK, for a SE company, but if a similar thing has happened for a financial instituion, it would loose customers.

No it is turned off, and I will never see it any more. In plain English, for me collecting links, it gives a false impression of a site. Sometimes it is on, other times off. Useless. I have no trust in it.
