Default GOOGLE Deals With Hidden Links - All Technologies?

GOOGLE Deals With Hidden Links - All Technologies?

This is an important topic, so I have chosen to break it out of an old worn out thread.

IMO - It appears to me that GOOGLE has dealt very effectively with all hidden links including CSS.

They saw the bigger picture and handled it very effectively and without prejudice across all technologies.

One of the link value alg components introduced recently is how many times (or how often) a link is chosen, if I didn't misread the patent.

Obviously, a link isn't going to be chosen very often if it can't be seen.

It may take some time for those links to drop in value, but then we really don't know what time associations are attached there.

It was clean & neat without a great deal of bad press.

I have already started seeing a gradual SERP demise of competitors using CSS hidden link methods.

What are your thoughts and observations on this issue?

Ken

Havnt seen anything specific enough to see that effect here. Seems like a system that will be prone to tampering if it is allowed to have significant effect on serps. Automated clicking and the like seems liks a dangerous way for them to hang their hat in the future.

I generally saw great G increases on very diversified IBL sites, and not much change in others at the last change.

I will perhaps monitor this effect to see if I notice the same.

I really think we don't pay enough respect to "10 steps ahead" at times!

What's to prevent the GOOG from applying the same click fraud technology to all links that they apply to Adwords/Adsense?

It is after all, an already fairly mature established technology.

There is a lot at stake in a $9Billion ($9,000,000,000) "Relavency" industry!

i assumed id get adsense as a retort to control methods, which is true since the technology is in their hands already.

but all clicks seems like a tall order for the current system when rumors are flying about inaccuracies with a much lighter load on just adsense ads.

It is an interesting prospect....but perhaps a huge can of worms to open.

Hoptoo,

It's only a "Fear Factor" episode for those using that kind of spam.

LOL

But what if the goal of using hidden CSS is not for IBL's, but instead to just get a site indexed by Google?

I took over a client site and their former webmaster had about 20 links to his sites all hidden with css throughout the site. While it was doing nothing for IBL's, it was a way to get G and the other search engines to find his new sites and get them into the index.

It was a waste of time.
You should have simply linked a client on a high ranking Portfolio Page!
Much stronger momentum!

Default Links in Javascript/Source Code

I am now wondering if links placed in free javascript source code could be treated as hidden links by Google?

A few of our pages use a free scripts found on the web that have a link in brackets to the authors site in the introduction before the main part of the script.

We have seen a major serps drop off for some of these pages in the last week and feel this may be related....
