Default Google sitemap questions. Do you have any success with it?

Hi,

I create google sitemap of my sites and submit it to google. Until now, what I see is that googlebot download the sitemap several times, but not spidering the real pages.

What about you? Do you have any good experience after submiting sitemap to google?

Regards,
Sjarief

It took a few days, but eventually my sites were indexed deeper than ever before.

Two of my sites were developed for local newspapers and once a story drops off the section page, you can only find it by searching - so clearly Google and the other search engines were not indexing all of the content. These sites are both part of Google News too - so if a new story is posted on these sites, I've seen it show up in Google News in less than 15 minutes. But, that doesn't mean it'll show up in a regular search.

But after joining Google Sitemaps, those hidden pages started to show up in searches - and the smaller, newer site has doubled it's traffic since then. And it appears that once a visitor finds the site, they stick around and go to other pages. So they may find the site because of a story that's a few months old, but they go on to read the recent news.

So yes, it's been very good for my sites!

I have the same doubt. Does that mean that we have to keep our new page url in this site map for some time?
My root site map contanin links to different section site maps and those pages ( section site maps ) in each section I add new page URLs ( not to main site map page ). So now shall I have to add new page URLs to main site map ? As that is being fequently downloaded by google?

When I did our sitemap I noticed that G say clearly that they may not use every sitemap.

I take that to mean that just because they download your map doesn't mean they will necessarily crawl all the URLs on it.

Wow, today I see google bot crawl heavily on my sites. they crawl thousand pages in one go. They use more than 100MB bandwidth. Glad to see that finally they use the sitemap.

Yeah. I'm actually beginning to wonder if they got 'stuck' on my forum. They have been there since early yesterday. And are still there now!

I just looked in my awstats and see they have used 1.72gb in bandwidth. I don't really know what that means -- but it's certainly significantly more then any other bots in my stats.

:)

I haven't had any experience with Sitemaps yet, but I'm excited about the prospect of it. As of now I am bringing up 2 new websites, and I intend to dynamically generate and submit my sitemap to google upon each new content change.

Should be interesting to see how the 2 websites in my signature progress in the rankings via this method from Day 1 (although GibThis has some backlinks from a prior ownership).

I think it's about 2-3 weeks after I submit the sitemap.

To my disappointment, after deep crawling thousand pages of my sites, they only index my homepage. Sigh.
